For me the source of the image is everything. Drawing from life means that the essence of the drawn enlivens whatever you make from it. Life is short and as a result my style is fast and fluid.

I'm guessing I work with the right side of my brain and have a childish belief that I can capture anything. This is usually drawing people en plein air driven either by a political cause, particular enthusiasm, music or performance. I use ink & gouache on an everyday basis but do other things with the raw material, often huge woodcuts, paintings, murals or prints but also sewn pieces and books. Nothing scares me because I grew up in the grimmest part of Liverpool and I have worked in war -zones. I am also a professional musician and lyricist.
