THE COVID CHRONICLE
A historic first-hand record of the 21st century pandemic in textiles and stitch.
14th JANUARY - 25th FEBRUARY 2023
The Covid Chronicle was set up by artist Wendy Bliss during the February UK Lockdown, 2021. T
he competed project is made up of 142 submissions from around the world, and the panels have been curated and stitched together into metre square blocks of four, making a total of 36 metres of work.
The installation has been described as a ‘Bayeux Tapestry’ for the 21st century pandemic, and records personal experience in words as well as pictures: each artist has been invited to add words to support their panel for this extraordinary collection; these are often poetic or moving, and always interesting.

Studio 40's learning programme aims to discover, inspire, engage and support the next generation of artists and arts audiences. As an arts centre rooted in Neath South Wales we aim to foster a sense of belonging in our spaces both onsite and online.
Working closely with local schools, community groups and specialist partners we will nurture the next generation of artists, from early years to adulthood, enabling everyone to get up close to art,
to meet artists and to make work themselves.
Our targeted programmes and sector leadership increase our impact, bringing the arts to those most in need.
Our Studios and Pop-up Spaces provide an affordable, flexible, friendly and safe environment for artists, makers, designers, and other creative practices.
We know from our ongoing conversations with artists that as well as the physical space a studio provides, being in an environment with other artists and having access to opportunities such as Open Studios, peer networks, and other ways of accessing knowledge sharing and work opportunities are very important. With this in mind, we will strive to make all our studios open busy creative environments where easy access to other artists is built into the design and ethos of how we operate.
Cost is a critical factor for artists, especially in South Wales, and we have continued to keep our studios at the lower end of the affordable studio sector.
